Edits / Features / No-watermark export
Instagram's Edits app exports your video with no watermark, no logo and no outro - free, at 1080p, on iPhone and Android, with nothing to unlock. That matters more than it sounds: Instagram makes Reels that carry another app's watermark less discoverable. Here's the proof, how Edits compares with CapCut, InShot and VN, the clean-export steps, what to do if you still see a mark, and how to add your own.
Edits exports your video exactly as you see it on the timeline: no logo in a corner, no handle, no "made with" outro, no end card. It applies to the free app - which is the only app - and to every export resolution. There's no setting to turn a watermark off because one was never added.
Instagram built Edits as a free, full-featured editor for Reels and has said some premium features may come later. A paid "remove watermark" tier isn't how it works - that's the model Edits was built to undercut. Details on what's free in Pricing - is Edits free?.
Instagram has said, in its own creator guidance, that Reels which are visibly recycled from other apps - a watermark or another app's logo is the obvious tell - are made less discoverable: shown less often in places like the Reels tab, and not recommended as widely to people who don't follow you. The content doesn't get removed; it just doesn't travel.
That's the reason a clean export matters for anyone posting Reels, not just for the look. It's also why the fix for the "I still see a watermark" cases below is worth the five minutes. The rest of the low-reach causes are in Why are my Reels getting low views?.
What each popular mobile editor does on a free export, and what it takes to get a clean file out of it. Full head-to-heads are in Comparisons and CapCut alternatives.
| Editor | Watermark on free export | How to remove it | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Edits (Instagram) | None | Nothing to remove | Free, 1080p, direct share to Instagram and Facebook. Full review. |
| CapCut | Usually an outro / badge on free templates | Delete the end clip, or Pro for some features | Edits vs CapCut - the comparison most people land here for. |
| InShot | Yes, on the free tier | Watch an ad per export, or pay | Edits vs InShot |
| VN | Optional ending credit | Turn off in export settings | Edits vs VN |
| iMovie | None | - | No vertical-first tools. Edits vs iMovie |
| Canva | None, unless you use Pro elements | Swap the Pro element or subscribe | Edits vs Canva |
| Instagram in-app editor | None | - | But no project saving or export to other apps. Compare |
Note: other apps change their free tiers often - treat their rows as "typically" and check before you rely on one. Edits' row is the one that hasn't changed: no mark, at any resolution, on any plan.
Two minutes, five steps - and step three is where you'll notice the toggle that isn't there. New to the app? Start with your first Reel in Edits or the getting started guide.
Step 01
Edits won't add anything, so the only marks that can end up in your export are ones already on the timeline. Scrub through and look at all four corners and the last two seconds.
Step 02
The export arrow sits at the top right of the project. Nothing to pay, nothing to watch, nothing to unlock first.
Step 03
Pick 1080p and leave the frame rate at what you shot, usually 30 fps. You'll notice there's no watermark toggle - because there's no watermark to toggle. Higher resolutions appear on supported devices and are just as clean.
Step 04
Save to the camera roll to post it on Instagram, TikTok, YouTube Shorts or anywhere else, or share straight to Instagram or Facebook from Edits. Either way the file is the same clean MP4.
Step 05
Open the export and watch the ending and the corners once. It should be clean end to end. If it isn't, the mark came in with a clip - jump to still see a watermark? below.
If there's a mark on a video you exported from Edits, Edits didn't put it there - but something on the timeline did. Find which of these four it is and the fix is quick.
The most common case. A video downloaded from TikTok carries the TikTok logo and handle; a free-tier CapCut export can carry a CapCut outro or badge. Edits imported the pixels it was given.
Some templates and sticker packs include a handle or badge as a layer. It looks like a watermark but it's just an element on your timeline.
A trailing "made with" card from another editor, or a clip you forgot to trim.
That's not in your file. Instagram stamps its own logo and your handle on Reels that other people download from the app - it's deliberate, and it credits you.
No watermark from the app doesn't mean no watermark at all - plenty of creators and businesses want a small brand mark so clips stay credited when they're reshared. Edits does this as an ordinary overlay, and your own mark isn't what Instagram's recycled-content signal looks for.
Edits exports clean 1080p Reels for free - no watermark, no outro, no upsell. Make it, export it, post it anywhere.
